Overview of Key Stage 3 - Year 9
Students in Year 9 are prepared for the next stage of their education, GCSE. They make important option decisions based on their strengths, enjoyment of a particular subject and also on possible career paths that they may already be looking at. In Year 9 they continue with their core subjects which are studied alongside Art, Drama, Citizenship, Food Science, IT, Physical Education and Music.
At The Lady Elizabeth Senior School we value the development of self-expression and creativity as a key part of academic and personal development.
Run by dedicated professionals, the standard of Drama is extremely impressive. Students have the opportunity to take part in several productions throughout the year. Performing Arts is offered at GCSE and A Level. Many of our students pursue a career in the Performing Arts. Music and singing are taught to a high standard and everyone has the chance to participate in the Senior School Choir which is renowned for excellence. The Peripatetic Music Teachers also offer a valuable service providing individual teaching to pupils in piano, guitar, violin, drums and woodwind. The Lady Elizabeth School is proud to be associated with LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). Students have the opportunity to take annual LAMDA examinations and our results are always outstanding.
The Art room and the newly adapted 6th Form Art Room are vibrant places and the artwork produced by students from Year 7 to A Level is of an extremely high standard. Our annual Art Exhibition displays work of the previous year’s A Level and receives fantastic reviews from the local art societies. Results at GCSE and A Level are always exceptional with students in the past receiving awards for Top in the World and Top in Spain. The preparation, presentation and quality of the food produced in Food Science Lessons is excellent. Students in Year 7 start off learning basic cooking skills. During Year 8 they advance to more complicated recipes and by Year 9 are comfortably preparing three course meals.
We understand the importance of technology in today’s society. Basic Skills IT is taught to all Key Stage 3. Students learn the importance of safe internet use and become confident in using several programmes to a high level. ICT is offered at GCSE and Applied ICT at A Level.
Physical Education is about enjoyment, participation and opportunity. We concentrate on individual improvement and encourage students to participate in sporting events both in and out of School. Our Sports Day, Inter-house Sports events and Swimming Galas are popular amongst all students and a great way to get the House spirit going during these competitions. Physical Education is an option at both GCSE and A Level.
