Every year, on 21 September, the International Day of Peace is celebrated around the world. This year’s theme, ‘Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All’, celebrates the spirit of ‘TOGETHER’. ‘TOGETHER’ is a worldwide drive promoting respect, dignity and safety for all of those people who are forced to flee their homes due to conflict or to search for a better life.
At The Lady Elizabeth Senior School the strong message delivered was that the International Day of Peace shouldn’t only last for one day, but forever, and that it is important to understand and respect the 2017 theme, created by the United Nations, ‘TOGETHER’.
Several activities relating to the International Day of Peace have been undertaken in Citizenship lessons since returning to school this term. Some of the activities included designing logos, conducting research into children in conflict, and short drama productions.
A showcase of the work was viewed by the student body in a special assembly. The choir opened with a beautiful a cappella rendition of Imagine by John Lennon. Genevieve Wigley addressed the school with an informative and thought provoking speech about Peace and a short video presentation highlighted the work that students have completed in the two weeks leading up to the International Day of Peace.
