Following the charity walk ‘On the Move’ last month, pupils have been busily collecting and handing in sponsorship money. To date the walkers have raised over 11,000 euros – this is amazing! ISP have agreed to match a large part of the sponsorship, meaning that we have a total charity fund of almost 20,000 euros – what an achievement!
At an assembly last week, Philip Baldwin, Head of Pastoral Care and organiser of the walk, and Oscar Hart, Year 13 pupil who volunteered at the Makimei Orphanage in Kenya last summer with Tallulah Beard, were able to give Peter Beard, Tallulah’s father, a cheque for 17,500 euros payable to the orphanage. Mr Beard, who has had a long career working in Africa, thanked all the pupils and promised to ensure that every cent of the charity money would be used to improve the lives of the orphans and give them hope for the future. He also announced that the remaining money will be used to give travel bursaries to support pupils who apply to volunteer at the orphanage near Nairobi in years to come – this scheme will ensure a continuing link with the orphanage, and a life-changing volunteering experience for the pupils who travel to Kenya.
