MUN conferences are held throughout the world and are attended by thousands of students. They are totally student run making it an event exclusively for teenagers. The conferences are designed to help all pupils improve their debating skills, leadership qualities as well as to give them more confidence in public speaking and to fine tune their research skills. They are required to think on their feet and to prepare and argue for their countries about international issues.
In February, sixteen LES students accompanied Mrs Wickman and Frau Brown to the Model United Nations held at Farel College in Amersfoort, Holland. Over 300 delegates attended FAMUN this year from different countries throughout Europe and further afield.
This year’s topic at FAMUN, was International Relationships and Political Stability. LES students excelled in all aspects of research, public speaking and debating when representing their individual countries. There was a definite improvement in pupils’ confidence and skills over the three days of the conference.
Congratulations to Mika and Tallulah for being voted as Best Delegates in their respective committees.
It was an invaluable experience for every student who attended. Thank you to Mrs Wickman and Frau Brown for dedicating their time to take the students to FAMUN.
