24th April 15
Year 8 students enjoyed a day trip to Valencia during the week leading up to the ‘Fallas’. The excursion included visits to ‘El Museo de Ninot’, (The ‘Fallas’ Museum), ‘La Lonja de la Seda y Consulado del Mar’ and ‘El Mercado Central de la ciudad de Valencia’ (Central Market).
Throughout the day there were parades involving people dressed in traditional ‘Falleros’ costume; the women in beautiful dresses and the men in colourful brocade waistcoats. The pupils also got to see many of the actual ‘Fallas’ which were already in place around the centre of Valencia.
The final part of the day was spent witnessing the ‘Mascletá’, a wonderful, deafening, ‘Fallas’ tradition which takes place every day at 2 pm in front of the Ayuntamiento. The ‘Mascletá’ is experienced by thousands of people who gather around the area to become part of the sights and sounds of the event.
A great day was had by everyone!
