Life in the 6th Form

Welcome From Head Pupils

We are delighted to have been chosen as Head Pupils. We look forward to representing the student body and getting to know the Year 7 pupils during the Mentoring Programme. We are also excited about planning the Sixth Form Christmas Ball and other events throughout the Academic Year to help maintain the community spirit that already exists amongst the 6th Form students.

Model United Nations

The Model United Nations Conference (MUN) is a simulation of international political, economic and social organisations where students take on the role of diplomats and ambassadors. Participants are required to represent different countries. One of the many aims of the MUN is for students to gain an insight into the politicised nature of international predicaments and the bureaucratic functioning of the various organisations that try to solve these problems. To make the simulation as real as possible, participants are actively involved in debating, public speaking, problem solving and negotiations. Substantial research, writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork and leadership qualities are all part of the MUN and it provides an invaluable experience for students.

Mentoring

The Sixth Form mentoring programme involves organising activities and tutoring sessions with both the Year 7s and the Year 8s. Usually influenced by the Value of the Month, we try to incorporate this into our weekly mentoring lessons as a basis for the activities.

For any new pupil the transition into a new school with new people can be a little daunting, therefore we, as mentors try to give any guidance and advice to help them settle and feel a part of our school community.

Forming a bond is quintessential to the scheme and whether we give them a ' high five' in the corridor or help them with their concerns, mentoring is a fantastic opportunity for both the mentors and the mentees!

6th Form Mentors

The 6th Form Ball

The Sixth Form Christmas Ball has become an annual event which is organised by the Head Pupils and a fabulous way to end the term. It gives the opportunity for the 6th formers to relax for the night and momentarily forget the looming examination period and all the pressures of their A Levels. The standard of dress is superb with every student going to great lengths to make the event one to remember; they always look like they have stepped straight from the pages of a top celebrity magazine! Prizes are awarded for the Best Dressed Girl and Boy and the Queen and King of the ball.

Charity Events

Our Sixth Form students are always ready to assist with the several Charity Events which take place during the year. They are a great help to staff and motivate younger pupils to participate. They organise and supervise stalls at the Christmas Fayre and are always keen to dress-up to help create a great atmosphere. House Captains come up with new fund-raising ideas and participate in discussions about which charities the money should be distributed amongst. Student participation in such events helps with team-building, organisational and communication skills which in turn produces young independent adults ready for future studies and employment.
