In Year 4, we have been learning about earthquakes and volcanoes, in the IPC unit Active Planet. Today, we thought about what we would need in a survival kit, if there was a natural disaster at school. We decided what items to bring, and then, when an earthquake hit the school, we evacuated to the Cumbre del Sol. We found a safe clearing to stay in, and set up camp.
Some of us made shelters and fires with wood we found there. We brought tinned food that wouldn't go off, torches for night time, and a radio so we would know the latest information about the earthquake. Some of us brought things to do, like games and books. It can be a long wait during a disaster.
It was a fantastic experience. We thought carefully about what it would feel like to live in a disaster area.
